CLINICAL TRIALS
Once investigational agents have been proven effective in the lab and/or animals, the next step is to bring the investigations to patients. Our clinical trials team works closely not only with Dr. Frankel as the principal investigator, but with the scientist researchers at the Institute, making our model of clinical trials truly unique.
Compliance with GCP ensures that the integrity of the study and patient safety are protected. To remain current with the latest research and the regulations governing it, our clinical trials staff receives ongoing training from the Scott & White Division of Research and Education as well as external firms and publications. Patients in our trials are admitted to the ICU at Scott & White for their study treatment. Being in the ICU provides close monitoring and 24/7 access to all hospital resources should they be needed. Our clinical trials staff and Dr. Frankel work very closely with the ICU staff; they become active team members while patients are under their direct care. We have three trials that are currently enrolling patients: AML (acute myelogenous leukemia), MDS (myelodysplastic syndrome), T-cell lymphoma and ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukemia). We also recently completed a Phase I trial for prostate cancer.
